How to train as an Ophthalmology Specialist
In Auckland this is a 5 year programme in general Ophthalmology
approved by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of
Ophthalmologists (RANZCO). It includes training in all
subspecialties except Refractive Surgery.
We have 6 x 1 year senior registrar positions. All of these are
very likely to be occupied by vocational or final year trainees. We
also have 4 x 6 month junior registrar positions which are occupied
by pre-vocational applicants.
Throughout their training, Registrars are required:
- To maintain excellent clinical standards
- To sit and pass OBS (Ophthalmic Basic Sciences) modules and
OBCK (Ophthalmic Competencies and Knowledge) Exam in the first 18
months of training
- To sit the RANZCO Part II exam during the 5 year training
period (usually in their 4th year).
For more information about training visit the Royal Australian and New Zealand
College of Ophthalmologists website.
